San Antonio ranks as one of country's top markets for relocation, expansion
San Antonio has been named one of America's hottest cities for company executives looking to relocate or expand their businesses within the next three years.
Expansion Management, a trade magazine published by Penton Media, surveyed site-selection consultants to compile its list of the top 50 metropolitan markets in which to expand or relocate.
San Antonio ranked fifth on the national list. The Alamo City ranked 11th last year.
For the second year in a row, Nashville is the top market, followed by Phoenix; Atlanta; Dallas; San Antonio; Charlotte; Memphis; Jacksonville, Fla.; Knoxville, Tenn.; and Birmingham, Ala.
Elsewhere in Texas, Austin and Houston ranked 18th and 19th, respectively.
The eight annual "America's 50 Hottest Cities" will be published in its upcoming January-February issue.
"Unlike the other rankings we do each year, which are based upon hard economic and demographic data, the Hot Cities poll attempts to measure the perceptions of professional site-location consultants, whose business it is to help companies select the best locations for future facility expansions," Expansion Management Chief Editor Bill King says.
Among companies that have made significant investments in San Antonio in recent years are Toyota Motor Manufacturing Texas Inc. and Seattle-based Washington Mutual Inc. (NYSE: WM).
Expansion Management is mailed to more than 45,000 CEOs, vice presidents, directors and other corporate officers who have indicated they are interested in expanding into new geographic areas. © 2006 American City Business Journals Inc.
